Dr. Moritz von Stosch

Dr. Moritz von Stosch is a thought leader in digital bioprocess development and operation. He is the co-author of more than 40 scientific publications, including the Book “Hybrid Modelling in Process Industries”. He is a Senior Scientific Advisor to DataHow AG and prior was Chief Innovation Officer at DataHow AG and Managing Director at DataHow LDA. Before joining DataHow, Moritz led the Process Systems Biology & Engineering Centre of Excellence at GSK Vaccines, for which he received an Innovation Performance and Trust award. He lectured at Newcastle University (England), holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from University of Porto (Portugal) and received a Dipl.Ing. in Chemical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University (Germany).

How digital solutions support single use applications and vice versa

Single use technology has been widely adopted in biopharma contributing to significant cost reductions and titer increases during the last 15 years. In combination with high-throughput experimentation and sensor developments, single use technology enabled generating large amount of data. Advances in machine-learning and process modeling technologies now allow exploiting these data and help to improve process understanding and increase titers. For bioreactors, improved titers in turn might allow shifting manufacturing from stainless steel to single-use as the required capacities are reduced. In this talk, I explore the interplay of single-use and digital technologies and provide an outlook of where a more interconnected use of the technologies could lead.
