Karlheinz Landauer, PhD

QBDC GmbH

Founder

Dr Karlheinz Landauer is founder and CEO of QBDC and co-founder of Kamosys, building an integrated ecosystem around epigenetic digital twins and CMC execution. Through his companies he supports pharma and biotech customers along the full path from DNA to market. He brings more than 25 years of experience in cell-culture process and media development, scale-up and GMP manufacturing, working with CDMOs, raw-material suppliers and innovators in biologics and cultured meat. At QBDC his teams develop AI/ML models that use DNA methylation as a process historian to understand how cells experience single-use systems, media, feeds and process perturbations, with the goal of making next-generation manufacturing more robust, predictable and transferable.

Upcoming Epigenetic Usage in Bioprocessing: How a Digital Twin Manages Material Variability

Single-use and intensified processing have transformed biomanufacturing. However subtle variability in bags, tubing, media and feeds still causes “mystery” shifts in cell behaviour. Classical PAT and conventional digital twins mainly see the broth, never the cell state. Using our EDDI / CellSense epigenetic digital twin, we read DNA methylation as the cell’s process memory, linking CpG patterns to growth, productivity, CQAs and metabolic shifts such as Warburg-like rewiring. Case studies show how this layer separates scales, reveals raw-material deviations and enables few-shot transfer between sites. Integrated with existing PAT, it helps qualify single-use supply chains and stabilise intensified processing.
