Introduction of Intensified Fed Batch (IFB) at large scale: A Hybrid Approach.

Lonza's new large-scale facility showcases intensified fed-batch (IFB) technology, delivering increased titers while maintaining product quality and lowering cost of goods (CoG). Using a hybrid model—stainless steel bioreactors integrated with single-use components—the process employs automated feeding and advanced PAT for real-time monitoring and control. This approach boosts volumetric productivity, enabling greater space-time yield. IFB at production scale combines productivity gains with operational flexibility, offering a validated, scalable platform for high-titer biologics manufacturing.
